Bass drum typically used in regional rhythms like coco, xaxado, forró and xote. With its low sound, it strongly marks time in the music. It also marks the counter rhythm because of its stick called the Bacalhau (codfish) which hits the bottom skin. The low sound acts as a kind of bumbo in a bateria, while the bacalhau acts as a kind of caixa. Its skin can be leather or nylon, since the latter doesn’t cause tuning problems because of temperature changes |
